Hyderabad:Over 1,500 women can look forward to joining the Telangana police in the ranks of sub-inspectors and constables.
Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao is expected to clear the proposal which will pave way for 33% reservation for women in recruitment to the Telangana state police. However, in the case of recruitment to the Armed Reserve, reservation is limited to 10%. “Once the proposal is cleared, we will take up recruitment, may be within a couple of months. In the first phase, we intend to fill between 4,000 to 5,000 vacancies,” DGP Anurag Sharma told Express.
The Telangana police are also in the process of putting in place measures aimed at providing greater security and assistance to women. Every police station will have a help desk manned by a woman constable and a civilian. Besides, quick reaction teams will be set up to attend to any SOS from any woman anywhere in the city.
According to Sharma, the beat system is also being re-worked by dividing the areas under each station into four sectors. Each sector will have two beat constables who will be doing both community policing and area patrolling. “The idea is to ensure that the same beat constables cover the sector assigned to them regularly so that they have knowledge of the problems in that sector and do troubleshooting accordingly.”
Sharma also said 1,200 more Toyota Innovas are being purchased for Hyderabad police in addition to 300 already acquired. A group SMS service is also being planned so that any decision taken at the higher level is conveyed down to the constable via a text message.
