The entire Hyderabad city is now abuzz with the allegations of removal of eligible voters’ by former GHMC Commissioner Somesh Kumar. Many politicians including the former vice chairman of National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) and former MLA M. Shashidhar Reddy and several BJP leaders including its MLAs have lodged complaints with Election Commission of India (ECI). A team consisting of ECI officials is currently verifying the allegations made by the leaders.
However, not many people observed the fact that the same ECI had deleted over 21 lakh voters from the electors’ list in neighboring Andhra Pradesh state. Yet, there is no outcry about the same about it there. Neither any politician nor any political party made any complaint against the ECI in AP. But, the case of Telangana state capital is completely different. The opposition political parties have made it a big issue despite the fact the names of only 6.5 lakh voters were removed from the voters’ list. Political analysts are saying that the hue and cry made by the politicians is aimed at drawing mileage in the upcoming Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) elections.
